Udyam Registration - Changes In Udyog Aadhaar


As per the notification announced in initiation with Atmanirbhar scheme for facilitating ease of doing business the Ministry Of MSME has introduced the new definition of MSME and new registration process known as – Udyam Registration’. The registration process has been started on 01-07-2020.

Before the notification it was known as Udyog Aadhaar Registration which is used to register under MSME. The new registration process of Udyam Comes up with many new updates and is very distinctive from the old process.

Basis Of Changes Udyog Aadhar Memorandum Udyam Registration
Aadhar Number Prior to the notification, entrepreneurs can register for more than one business using Udyog Aadhaar Registration. Now with one Aadhar you can only register for Udyam registration
An enterprise can only have one Udyam Registration
PAN validation No validation of PAN was required. PAN and GSTIN are must for enterprises registering under Udyam and validation of PAN is mandatory.
Number of employees Number of employees was to be entered.in Udyog Aadhaar Registration Gender segregation must be included in Number of Employees
Linkage with Income tax, PAN and GST department All figures was to be entered manually on self-declaration basis Now all the details should be entered as per ITR (previous year filed) and GST.
Composite criteria for the classification of MSMEs Earlier there were separate limits for both the sectors of manufacturing and service for classification. Now, there is the same limit for investment and annual turnover for both the manufacturing and service sector for classifications.
Registration Certificate At the time of registration Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) is issued. Udyam Registration Number is issued after applying and Udyam Registration Certificate shall be issued only after verification.

Latest Changes In Udyog Aadhaar - Udyam Registration


  1. Details of enterprise can be accessed with the help of Udyam Registration Certificate which will have a dynamic QR Code

  2. For verification of all the information.Income tax, GST and PAN department are linked.

  3. Classification requirements i.e. investment and company turnover are now combined for both the manufacturing and service industries.

  4. Existing registered enterprises under Udyog Aadhaar will have to re-register before 31.03.2021 in Udyam.

  5. PAN and GSTIN are mandatory for registration:.

    • GSTIN and PAN along with its Aadhaar number are mandatory in the case of a Company, LLP, Cooperative Society, Trust or Society..

    • Entrepreneur must apply for PAN & GST number before March, 2021 and in the case of the proprietor, you can continue with Aadhar only on a self-declaration basis

  6. The Ministry Of MSME has made compulsory validation of PAN and GSTIN for registration on or after 01.04.2021.

  7. .For the ease of doing business and facilitation of MSME, the registration of the following two portals are also integrated with Udyam Registration Portal

    • Government e-Market (GeM) portal, and
    • TReDS portal


New Definition Of Enterprises Re-classification Of The Existing Enterprise


  • In order to classify an enterprise as a micro , small or medium enterprise, an enterprise must meet all the requirements i.e. investment and turnover. If the business exceeds only one criterion's ceiling limit, it will cease to exist in that category, and be put in the next higher category.

  • But in both the criteria of investment as well as turnover, the enterprise cannot be placed in the lower category unless it goes below the ceiling limits specified in the present category of classification of MSME.

  • In the case of an upward shift (from a lower to a higher category i.e. medium to small ) a business must retain its dominant status until the expiry of one year from the end of the registration year.

  • In case of downfall (sliding down to lower category i.e. Small to Micro) of an enterprise, the benefit of the changed status will be given to the enterprise from 1st April,2021 till then the enterprise will continue in its present category till the closure of the financial year .
